Tribeworks has a very user friendly authoring tool in iShell, but when it comes to taking a project and creating a cross platform CD, the process required is more complicated than most basic users can handle. Tribeworks was getting more tech support calls from users trying to burn CDs, than for any other problem.
We created a one-button solution to provide basic hybrid CD-burning functionality within iShell. This allows inexperienced users to create dynamic cross platfrorm CD-ROMs in record time. Rather than a 30 step process for gathering all the necessary components, and creating the CDs, all it takes now is the press of one button.
We developed a plug-in for iShell (programmed in Key and C, using Microsoft's IMAPI libraries, and OS X's Disc Recording Framework) which allows the user to change preferences if desired (such as CD Name, autorun, whether to include quicktime installers and splash screens), and press Burn to automatically burn a hybrid CD of the current project. The files needed are gathered together, renamed if needed, and burned onto the disc. A disc burned on Windows XP will work on Windows 98 and up, and on Mac OS X. A disc burned on Mac OS X will work on Windows 98 and up, Mac OS X, and Mac OS 9.
