OE Quality Friction identified a problem that was erroneously being blamed on the brake pads. Well established practises in auto mechanic shops were causing braking problems with cars and trucks when premium quality brake pads were installed. The true culprit was poor refinishing jobs on the rotors, but customers incorrectly assumed the problem was with the brake pad.
OE Quality Friction's approach was to find an effective way to educate auto mechanics on the need for proper rotor finishes and how to achieve them. We created a Flash based, multilingual presentation that quickly and effectively demonstrated the phenomenon that was causing the decreased performance with graphics and animated simulations.
The entire presentation, entitled "Scratching the Surface" was created in Flash MX, and delivered on both CD-ROM and over the web. A multilingual engine was created that used an XML file to populate all on-screen text with the correct language, and switch the narrations to the correct language on the fly. Advanced illustrations were done with Freehand MX, animations where created in Flash, and the 3D modeling was done in Strata Studio Pro.
